Senior UX Designer

Motability Operations are currently recruiting for a Senior UX Designer to join our Digital Customer team in either Bristol or London on a full-time, permanent basis. You will form part of a design team which includes other User Experience Designers, User Researchers, a Content Designer and a Visual Designer.

Our Digital Customer team’s aim is to improve the lives of our Motability customers by designing solutions that make it easy for them to interact with us online. Therefore, with the development of the Motability Scheme Online Account our interactions with customers are increasingly through digital channels.

As Senior UX Designer, you will:

• Play a lead role in continuously improving our design methodology and keeping abreast of new tools and processes
• Work with the product team to influence the product roadmap, strategy and vision by bringing knowledge about users and design expertise
• Help create briefs for the design team that are expressed as missions to achieve or problems to solve rather than feature requests
• Work with the more junior UX designers day-to-day on the responsibilities outlined for them and help them improve

Understand and stand up for the user

• You are able to put yourself in someone else’s shoes to understand their needs and problems
• You’re experienced in planning, facilitating and synthesising research and presenting insights to senior stakeholders
• You’ve worked in a delivery environment where you’ve needed to present solid design rationale to ensure users have better experiences
• You should be able to present your understanding of users in ways such as user journey maps, personas screen flows and service blueprints

Design with desired outcomes in mind

• You are able to trace product and business goals to design decisions
• You have used a ‘hypothesis driven mindset' and able to identify metrics to measure success
• You know how to demonstrate tangible improvement as a result of the solution the team has designed. Working knowledge of analytics will be an advantage.

Always think inclusively

• You have a working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 and are keen to learn more
• You have demonstrated an inclusive design mindset in the past

Design iteratively and welcome feedback

• You are not afraid to show your work early and welcome constructive critiques
• You are comfortable with ambiguity and thinking divergently
• You should be a competent user of design prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Invision and have extensive experience with responsive web design

Design end-to-end

• You have experience using a ‘service design mindset’ which involves thinking beyond the screens you are designing and considering the whole user journey, other people/processes that support the user journey and how people interact with it in the real world
• You are able to design within constraints and where necessary challenge the validity of constraints

Work with other disciplines

• You have worked in an agile delivery environment where attention to detail, timeliness and ability to negotiate are key
• You have worked with product owners to help shape the roadmap and product vision
• You are able to confidently present design work and research findings to a senior audience
• You are able to facilitate engaging ideation solutions with designers and non-designers
• You are able to help non-designers understand the value of design
• Experience working within the context of a digital programme will be an advantage

Drive your own development and that of others

• You are curious, keen to upskill and stay up to date with new methods and tools
• You are able to lead and coach other UX designers
• You can demonstrate that you’re able to improve the methods, tools and processes of the design team

Minimum criteria:

• Experience working in an agile delivery environment
• Experience using workflow and collaboration software, e.g., JIRA and Confluence.
• Mastery of using design and prototype software such as Figma, Sketch and Invision
• Experience conducting user research and knowledge of which user research techniques to use in which scenario
