About The Role
Reporting to the VRM E-commerce Delivery Manager, this role focuses on developing and implementing digital solutions, such as our award-winning Dealer Dashboard platform, which are used every day by thousands of our car dealer customers.

The systems are currently built with Azure, SQL Server, .NET Core and JavaScript/React stacks, with several different user and API interfaces.

In this role, you will work closely with the Digital Marketing and Development Team, as well as external development partners, to produce well-designed and well-implemented technical solutions to business problems across VRM. You will have the opportunity to input at all stages from inception to test as well as deployment.

Working collaboratively with the Digital Marketing Team to develop our automated marketing, personalisation capabilities and analytics tracking, you will use tools such as Salesforce, Google Analytics, and various CMSs.

As Senior Engineer, you will coach and mentor the Junior Digital Developer, collaborating with external development resources, moving us closer towards becoming a single, integrated product team.

You will work with stakeholders in MI and Business Systems to improve the accuracy, transferability, usage, and integration of VRM data across the business. Along with working closely with our IT Security and Risk departments, to adopt best practice when developing solutions, ensuring we adopt the appropriate security measures and mitigate risks where possible. 

About You
We’re looking for a collaborative, accountable and commercially interested developer, who is comfortable working with stakeholders both technical and non-technical. You should be an effective communicator, who is able to explain technical solutions in a way that is understandable by all involved in projects.

You will be knowledgeable of the “full-stack” of .NET development tools, including a good grasp of SQL and knowledge of ORMs such as Entity Framework or Dapper. You should have experience of front-end technologies including JavaScript and React, but you don’t need to be an incredible front-end developer as we have these resources at our agency partner.

You should be comfortable working on a variety of projects focusing both on internal and external users, working on different projects throughout each day, so you must be comfortable with context-switching.

Internally, we follow a pragmatic, Kanban approach to development. Although when working with external agencies, on a project-basis, there is an element of waterfall. With the agency, you’ll be involved in every stage of the project from inception through to testing and sign-off, and will need to build a rich, architectural understanding of the agency’s solutions, allowing us to hold them to account.

We are building capability in the content, marketing, and analytics spaces. Any knowledge of CMSs (including Umbraco, Contentful and Sitecore), CRM systems (Salesforce) and measurement tools (Google Analytics, Oracle data studio) would be useful.

Most of our systems are deployed to Azure. Any experience managing an Azure instance (or transferable experience from AWS or GCP) would be beneficial.
Minimum criteria
  • Ability to act as a technical lead and system owner, including being able to explain design choices and issues to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with C#, ASP.NET, REST APIs, SQL, HTML, and JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React) and tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence
  • Experience managing Azure services (or other cloud platforms)
  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs or services (especially CRM and CMS systems
  • Experience of web-security principles and standards (e.g., OWASP)
  • Experience with technical design, solution architecture and demonstrable history of work on complex data-heavy systems
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior engineers
